Read the T&C or scrub a toilet

A public WiFi provider in the UK, Purple, got 22 000 people to sign up for cleaning toilets in exchange for free wifi.

As part of their efforts to highlight people's lack of awareness when it comes to what they are agreeing to when signing up for services, the company added a community service clause in their Terms and Conditions of service which said that the user agrees to "carry out 1,000 hours of community service, including cleaning portaloos, unclogging drainage pipes and hugging stray cats."

During the two weeks the community service clause was in the Terms and Conditions, only one person saw the clause.
